We’re looking for a friendly and reliable Retail Experience Guide to join our small but mighty team in Louisbourg. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with people, has an eye for detail, and is excited to support a growing, local brand and community.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Greeting customers, helping them find their perfect scent, and providing an exceptional in-store experience while welcoming them to Louisbourg.

• Handling sales transactions and keeping the shop looking beautiful and organized.

• Learning about our candles and sharing the stories behind each one with visitors.

• Helping restock shelves and maintain a tidy inventory area.

• Assisting with some behind-the-scenes tasks like tracking incoming product, organizing samples, and updating inventory.

• Supporting the buying team with light research (like checking out new trends or what’s selling well elsewhere).

• Lending a hand with order processing and vendor follow-up as needed.
  

• Creating content for social media / online by taking photographs and video.
  
  

• Offer personalized recommendations on local restaurants, accommodations, shops, and experiences.

• Act as an unofficial tour guide, highlighting nearby must-see spots like the Fortress of Louisbourg, coastal trails, beaches, and hidden gems.

• Provide brochures, maps, or QR links to local attractions and tourism operators when needed.

• Assist in developing seasonal or themed local experience guides or signage within the shop (ex: “Staff Picks – What To Do This Weekend!”).

• Represent the Canapa Candle brand as a friendly, knowledgeable ambassador for both the store and the wider Louisbourg community.

Now Hiring: Retail Experience Lead (Store Manager) – Canapa Candle | Louisbourg, NS

Do you love candles, coastal vibes, and leading passionate teams?
Canapa Candle is growing, and we’re looking for a Store Manager to help guide our shop and community experience in beautiful Louisbourg, Cape Breton.

At Canapa Candle, we create hand-poured soy candles inspired by the rugged beauty of the East Coast—using high-quality, phthalate-free fragrance oils and natural ingredients. Our shop is more than just a place to buy candles—it’s a warm, welcoming space where guests can experience scent, memory, and learn more about our community and island. Think warm lighting, ocean air, and a touch of beachy farmhouse vibes.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking a passionate and organized Retail Store Manager who shares our love for small-batch craftsmanship, excellent customer experiences, and community connection. You’ll lead our retail team, manage day-to-day operations, and play a key role in helping our brand shine.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the Shop: Oversee daily operations of our Louisbourg retail store, ensuring an inviting, beautiful, and organized space.

• Inspire the Team: Assist in hiring, training, and developing a small team of staff and seasonal helpers with a focus on service, storytelling, and hospitality.

• Deliver Outstanding Guest Experiences: Engage with customers in a warm, meaningful way—whether they’re locals or travellers discovering Canapa Candle for the first time.

• Drive Sales & Growth: Meet sales goals through creative merchandising, excellent service, and knowledge of our products and story.

• Keep it Beautiful & Efficient: Manage inventory, merchandising, cash handling, staffing schedules, and store upkeep.

• Be the Heart of the Brand: Represent the values of Canapa Candle with authenticity and care—supporting events, seasonal launches, and special workshops as needed.
  

• Curate content : Work with the team to come up with, capture and produce creative and fun content for social media, giveaways, contests and more. 
  

• Popup events: We frequently host popup events and workshops, which can involve moving locations within Louisbourg, setting up for the event and tearing down after.

You’ll Thrive in This Role If You:

• Have previous retail leadership experience (ideally 2–3+ years).

• Love working with people and creating a warm, memorable guest experience (Guest experience is extremely important to us. We love people!).

• Have strong organizational skills and are comfortable managing multiple responsibilities.

• Enjoy storytelling, product knowledge, and guiding others through a sensory experience.

• Feel at home in a small business setting where your ideas and contributions truly matter.

• Are comfortable using point-of-sale software and basic office tools (training provided).

• You’re a maker, creative, or candle lover yourself.

• You have a connection to or passion for the Cape Breton lifestyle.

• You’ve got an eye for visual merchandising and detail.
