Learning to pivot - How we are moving forward during the Canada Post strike

Running a small business in beautiful Louisbourg, comes with its unique challenges, and the ongoing Canada Post strike has certainly added to them. As a business that relies on affordable and reliable shipping, the strike has forced us to make some difficult decisions. Here's how we're adapting and finding strength through the support of our incredible community.

Unfortunately, being located in a rural area means we don’t have easy access to third-party postal carriers. The nearest options are simply too far away, and mainly the cost difference makes them unfeasible for us and our customers. As a result, we’ve temporarily suspended shipping. Yes, this means we’re losing out on some sales, but we’re prioritizing what we can do to continue serving our community and keeping our business thriving.

While the loss of shipping might seem like a setback, the response from our local community has been incredible. To make things easier for our customers, we’re offering local pickup at our store, as well as free private shopping sessions—either in person or online via video chat. Interested? Send us an email or DM and let’s get you booked in! These options ensure that our customers can still find their favorite products and enjoy a personalized shopping experience.

We’re also channeling our energy into making our local events bigger and better than ever. On December 8th, we’re hosting a Taylor Swift Mini Market, and on December 15th, we’re holding our first-ever "Fudge Off," where community members can enjoy delicious treats and festive fun. These events are our way of bringing people together and celebrating the season, all while showcasing the amazing talent and creativity within our community.

We’re proud to share that our story was recently featured in a CTV article, highlighting the ways we’re navigating these challenges and leaning into community connection. You can read the watch the video story here or ready the written story here.

As we continue to pivot, we want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to our local customers and all who have shown us support us and other local Maritime small businesses. Whether you’re stopping by for a candle, attending an event, or simply cheering us on from afar, you’re helping us weather this storm. We’re grateful to be part of such a supportive and resilient community.
